Thank You to Our Guest Speaker: Teresa Duryea Wong

May 13, 2025 — Exploring Native American Quilts

The Alamo Heritage Quilt Guild extends our heartfelt thanks to Teresa Duryea Wong, acclaimed author, historian, and lecturer, for her unforgettable presentation: Sewing & Survival: Native American Quilts from 1880–2022.

Her lecture captivated us with a powerful exploration of how Native American women used quilting as a means of resilience, adaptation, and cultural preservation during a time of profound change. We were truly fascinated by the depth of history, artistry, and emotion woven into each story she shared. Her passion and insight left us deeply inspired, and we all came away having learned so much more about the cultural and historical significance of these remarkable quilts.

We also hope Teresa’s presentation serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving and sharing these pieces of history. We encourage museums and cultural institutions to display quilts from the past so that future generations can see, appreciate, and learn from the artistry and stories they hold.

It was an honor to host Teresa, and we look forward to welcoming more inspiring voices like hers in the future.
